Day 1

Arrival of the guests

13:00 h – Meeting with the guide at the airport in Skopje. Visit of Skopje city center and lunch. Visit of French and English military WW1 cemetery and the church St. Archangel Michael in which the ossuary with remains of Serbian soldiers is located.

Day 2

Bitola during WW1

Off road drive thru National Park Pelister to the summit of 2200 m..s.l at the glacial Lakes, Pelisterski oci. Few stops along the front line of WW1 where main battles took place ending in 1 million causalties just in few days. Lunch provided at the top.

In the afternoon the group will visit the German, French and Serbian military cemetery in Bitola city. The tour continues in Bitola city museum and the main street Shirok Sokak the most famous street in Macedonia. The guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the city and about the Dutch medical mission in Bitola during WW1 (then Monastir), when the city was constantly bombarded. The Dutch medical mission was among the few who risked their life to help the civilian population, bombarded even with gas bombs.

Also, group can visit the archaeological site Heraclea Lyncestis formed by Philip II of Macedon.

Day 3

Kajmakcalan peak (2.521 m) – the most famous WW1 location on the Macedonian Front

After breakfast the group will visit the peak Kajakcalan on Nidze mountain, one of the key positions on the Macedonian Front, during the First World War. Next stop are the Serbian military cemetery in village of Dobroveni at the foot of Nidze mountain, and the story about the “Battle at Crna Band”. (Battle at Black River Band).

Day 4

Battle of Dobro Pole – the breakthrough of the Macedonian Front 

Visit with 4×4 vehicles of Dobro Pole locality, where the breakthrough of the Macedonian Front occurred and according to many historians, where the end of the First World War started (3 hours and 30 min drive in one direction). On the way back from Dobro Pole guests will visit the bunkers in village Staravina and will have the opportunity to learn more about the civilian population during the war. Next stop is the Ethno house in Zovich village. Traditional Macedonian lunch from Mariovo region. Visit to the popular Stone Bridge on “Gradeska” River.

Day 5

Military cemetery in Prilep, Gradsko and visit of Dojran city

After the breakfast the guests will start their trip toward Dojran city and on the way will visit the German military cemetery in Prilep on which besides the German soldiers are buried soldiers from many other countries. Next stop are the seemingly abandoned but particularly interesting German cemetery in Gradsko, which during the WW1 was important supply center for the Central Powers.

Macedonia is famous for its high quality wines from Tikwesh region, and the guest will have the opportunity to taste some during the lunch in some wineries in this region.

Day 6

Visit of Kala Tepe and Devil’s Eye Bunker

Visit of Kala Tepe (approx 2h and 30 minutes) hiking in one direction on mountain road. (Possibility of transport with 4×4 jeep if the conditions of the mountain road are convenient). Return to Dojran, lunch, city tour, boat tour on Dojran lake.

Day 7

British cemetery and monument in Doirani and Thessaloniki, Greece

Visit of British cemetery and monument in Doirani village in Greece on the other side of Dojran Lake. Travel toward Thessaloniki and visit of the Bird Cage defense line, and the military cemetery Zeitinlik (Lembet Road) – Monastir Road during WW1. Visit of Thessaloniki city center and the White Tower.
